We're looking for a talented and motivated Separation Scientist to join our Separation Science Laboratory team within the Pharmaceutical Science function at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg.
Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED), AstraZeneca's small molecule biotech unit that deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects span traditional small molecules to nucleotide based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a separation scientist you will have the opportunity to combine your practical and theoretical skills to provide separation science expertise into our drug projects from discovery up to launch. You will join a highly competent team and collaboratively drive the delivery of pure compounds to the IMED portfolio.
In your daily work you will solve both chiral and achiral separation problems in mg to kg scale, ranging from small molecules to large peptide conjugates, using modern instrumentation.
To be successful in this role you will need a strong scientific background together with a problem solving attitude and strong delivery focus. It is essential with good communication skills and ability to engage and collaborate across boundaries. You are expected to:
* Have a passion for driving scientific excellence through publications and presentations.
* Be a laboratory based role model working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure delivery on target.
* Provide scientific leadership and mentoring of more junior team members.
* Demonstrate expertise in separation science ranging from analytical to preparative scale to drug projects in all phases of drug discovery and development.
* Personally contribute to the delivery of the pipeline by owning the progressions of its items.
* Effectively operate with scientists from other IMED functions in a highly cross-disciplinary environment
Essential requirements
* PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (or equivalent) and at least three years working experience
* In-depth scientific knowledge within separation science and chromatography
* Technical skills and experience to use and maintain chromatographic equipment
* Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions
* Excellent English, both spoken and written.
* Ability to work collaboratively, prioritise your own work and act decisively
Desirable requirements
* Experience of working with separation science in the industry
* Experience from purification of peptide and oligonucleotide therapeutics
* Publication track record
