hela Sverige Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.
From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Chronic Cough.
To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of these strategic research areas we are currently recruiting skilled Medicinal Chemists to join our dynamic department. Do you want to join us?
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Within our Medicinal Chemistry projects, you will lead the science both in the lead generation and lead optimization phase. You will ensure uptake of novel scientific developments into AstraZeneca 's Medicinal Chemistry teams and projects. You will have the opportunity to work with both internal and external (CRO and collaboration) partners and share findings via publications or conference presentations.
* Design and synthesis of novel lead compounds
* Represent Medicinal Chemistry as chemistry lead in respiratory project teams
* Take part in portfolio projects at all stages of drug discovery delivering high quality tool compounds and drug molecules
* Apply synthetic chemistry emphasizing on idea generation mindset, troubleshooting problems and maintaining a clear focus and impact on project progression
* Provide a high level of expertise within Medicinal Chemistry to deliver high quality compounds within agreed timelines and in efficient collaboration with biology, DMPK and safety departments
* Drive RIA IMED 's scientific reputation by supplying conference presentations and publications together with internal as well as external organization
Essential Requirements
This is an opportunity for you to join a state of the art Medicinal Chemistry Department in the Respiratory therapeutic area and to invent novel medicines. We expect you to share our real passion for science and have a strong scientific background in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry. Furthermore, we believe you have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage and collaborate across boundaries. Your problem-solving attitude and delivery focus will contribute to both scientific novelties as well as positive group dynamic.
* PhD in synthetic Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry
* Professional experience in Medicinal Chemistry, either in the Pharmaceutical Industry or Academia
* In-depth scientific knowledge of modern synthetic chemistry
* A proven track record of delivery from own experimental work
* Excellent communication, influencing and collaboration skills
* Knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug discovery and development process
