Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.

From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Chronic Cough.

To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of these strategic research areas we are recruiting world-class scientists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled scientist with a strong drive for innovation and idea generation to join our in vivo teams. The teams work closely with the Target Translational Science and the Regeneration departments to support projects and to explore new exciting science.

Accountabilities and responsibilities:

* Drive science and develop valuable solutions for respiratory diseases
* Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance as well as data integrity
* Lead for in vivo studies in support of pre-clinical discovery/early development projects
* Design and develop disease-relevant in vivo models and biomarkers
* Evaluate and interpret primary data followed by reports and summaries
* Act as an effective and creative team member in supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives

Essential requirements

* PhD in relevant discipline
* In vivo and in vitro experience and experimental skills in the use of animal models
* Hands on experience in animal handling and in vivo techniques
* Deep understanding of pharmacology, physiology and immunology
* Ability to independently design perform and analyses in vivo experiments and interpret experimental data
* Understanding of statistical methods, quality control, data reporting and archiving
* Analytical skills related to in vivo research and data analysis
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Able to communicate effectively across language, cultural or other barriers

Desirable requirements

* Required and valid education for compliance to work with live animals in Sweden
* A proven track record demonstrating a well-organized customer focused approach, preferably gained within a drug discovery environment
* Respiratory disease knowledge, including target and mechanism knowledge (COPD, asthma, cough, tissue regeneration)
* Experience of specialized in vivo techniques and development of in vivo models in the respiratory area (e.g. administration of compounds via the inhaled route, Whole-Body-Plethysmography, Flexivent, aerosol generation)
* Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 generated animal models
* Experience in fibrosis and/or tissue regeneration in vivo
