We are now looking for an Associate Principal Scientist to join Drug Product Manufacture. Placement is at our site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development is accountable for delivering the design, innovative, efficient and robust processes for the manufacture of drug substance and product, the supply chain of products for safety and clinical trials and the generation of information and knowledge to ensure regulatory approval of new products.
Drug Product Manufacture (DPM) in Gothenburg manufactures prototype products (e.g. oral/inhaled solution/suspension, parenteral solutions, capsules, tablets, pellets) to AZ clinical studies around the globe. DPM is supporting a wide portfolio of projects across all AZ therapy areas. Establishing numerous new products annually, and with an overall supply of products to approximately 25 projects yearly, you will then have the possibility to make an important contribution in delivering science for development and manufacture of new medicines.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will in this role contributes significantly to the manufacturing of drug product for clinical studies during development, mainly in Phase I/II. All below activities will have a significant impact on the speed, quality and cost of the AZ development portfolio:
* Provide expert technical guidance and problem solving within DPM. Partner establishment of prototype products.
* Provide scientific leadership. Train and mentor colleagues.
* Active cross functional collaboration with early formulation development scientists.
* Evaluate, recommend, and drive new technology initiatives. Vital role in implementation of new complex equipment and technology for manufacture during development giving input to future commercial processes.
* Challenge current ways of working; identify improvements and demonstrate creativity and innovation whilst delivering new opportunities.
* Drive DPM external science and technology collaborations.
Minimum experience
* PhD or similar level of experience in pharmaceutics or engineering (specializing in pharmaceuticals) in combination with experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
* Broad understanding in the disciplines of pharmaceutical formulation development and manufacturing processes in order to contribute to a world class drug product manufacture organisation.
Preferred experience/requirements
* A good understanding of the overall drug development process from discovery through to launch with an appreciation of how late stage development contributes to R&D and the broader business.
* Experience in multiple disciplines in CMC and related functions such as drug discovery or commercial manufacture
* Extensive knowledge in early formulation development preferably with experience in the liquid/parenteral/inhalation area.
