Do you want to join a world leading team in developing the next generation of respiratory medicines?

At AstraZeneca Sweden we'll make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you. To do this, we've created a great international working environment that's full of world-class talent, and opportunities for collaboration and innovation. If you're inspired to make a difference and ready to discover what you can do - join us.

AstraZeneca is committed to the development of the next generation of innovative respiratory medicines. The Computational Chemistry team leads efforts to expand the use of state of the art in silico methods for modelling, ligand design, property predictions and data analysis supporting the RIA drug discovery projects with a focus on Small Molecules and New Modalities. The team operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with scientists from the Medicinal Chemistry, Bioscience, DMPK and Pharmaceutical Sciences departments to advance the RIA project pipeline.

We are now recruiting an Associate Principal Scientist, Computational Chemistry - Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (RIA) to join our successful team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Computational Chemist you will have a profound impact on multiple projects across the RIA portfolio with a focus on target identification, lead generation and lead optimization - and with particular focus on structure-based design and simulations.

You will have a key role in modelling, analysis of large datasets and drug design. You will be a significant contributor to project progression and a project team member. The role holder will also provide discipline based scientific leadership and represent the department and AstraZeneca at interdisciplinary meetings and conferences, both internally and externally.

As Associate Principal Scientist, you will provide:

* Profound expertise in structure-based drug design
* Excellent knowledge of modern Computational Chemistry
* Analysis, interpretation, and visualization of biological, physchem and DMPK data and communication of results within project teams and across departments
* Simultaneous impact on multiple drug discovery projects by efficiently and pro-actively applying a wide variety of computer-aided drug design approaches
* Excellent knowledge of state of the art Computational Chemistry
* Driving areas of scientific improvements for Computational Chemistry
* Planning, writing and publishing of high quality scientific papers

Essential Requirements

We are seeking an engaged Computational Chemist with a track record of working in drug design projects. Industry experience is a plus, but not a must. The successful candidate will join our fast-paced multidisciplinary RIA Computational Chemistry team. You are expected to have a high degree of independence and a track record of excellence in a number of computer-aided drug design techniques to assist in target identification and advancement of discovery programs.

* PhD in Computational Chemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacology or a related field with a strong computational background
* Solid knowledge of Computational Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry concepts
* Expertise in using Computational Chemistry software as well as knowledge in scientific computing, and programming skills (e.g. Python, Perl, C, C++, Java)
* Strong expertise in structure-based drug design and biophysical methods
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
