AstraZeneca is now looking to hire an Associate Principal Scientist witihnBioscience Lung Regeneration - Innovative Medicine - Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (IMED RIA). The position will be placed in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Innovative Medicine - Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (IMED RIA) is seeking to lead a breakthrough in disease modification and cure, thereby changing the future of respiratory disease management.
Bioscience Lung Regeneration is part of this bold ambition, where our focus is on recovery of lung tissue and function. Our goal is explore the underlying mechanisms which perturb effective repair in diseased cells/tissue. We will model environments which reveal patient cell differential biology (vs healthy) - including multi-cell communication, stem cell morphology, matrix signals, damage - and thereby generate a platform to discover correctors of regenerative capacity.
We need skills in lung cell isolation, multi-cell complex culture systems, stem cell culture and genetic manipulation. As Associate Principal Scientist in regenerative biology you are an expert in your own area and often seen as point of reference for others. Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Supports the development of the Bioscience function by contributing to the leadership and direction of the department or by leading small project groups focused on a technical field
• Supports the delivery of drug discovery projects either by project managing a small team or by providing technical expertise on a specific topic
• Oversees the development of innovative projects or contributes significantly to the practical delivery of project goals by providing expert advice and interpreting complex data to resolve issues and make high level recommendations
• Leads and champions new innovations within own discipline which will aid the department to meet overall strategic objectives
• Designs and implements improvements in technologies and scientific approaches across area of responsibility to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of projects
• Serves as a resource for others by sharing expertise, within and beyond the bioscience function, in own area of expertise or defines and communicates important initiatives to own team
• Collaborates with other functions and ensures communication between teams
• Contributes significantly to determining the viability of new compounds and making decisions about whether the project should develop from the initial drug discovery step either as a project manager or a valued expert in the field
• May have significant input into the performance management process of team members, helping to set goals and objectives and overseeing their professional development
• Ensures own work, and work of team, is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulation
Essential Requirements
• Master's degree in a relevant discipline
• Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and drug discovery process
• Well-developed understanding of molecular and cellular biology
Desirable Requirements
• An advanced degree in a related field and/ or professional certification
