Welcome to join us now as our new Associate Director/Team Leader to lead the in vitro Target validation team - Applied Stem Cell Sciences in Translational Genomics, Discovery Sciences, Biopharmaceuticals R&D. You will be based at AstraZeneca 's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. Leading an excellent team of skilled stem cell scientists and working alongside disease areas specialists to drive Target Validation projects that will power the development of new medicines for Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Renal and Respiratory diseases.

Using your strong communication skills, scientific knowledge and expertise in stem cell biology, you will have the opportunity to develop a team responsible for designing and delivering target validation data packages using physiologically relevant cellular models across different disease areas.

What you'll do:
With your scientific expertise and leadership qualities you'll provide strategic leadership for the Target validation team, retaining a strong alignment and engagement between the Applied Stem Cell Sciences teams and therapy area functions. Through your leadership and support to the team you will be delivering a portfolio of projects by providing direction to the reporting team, the department's leadership team, senior leaders and key partners.

We also rely on you to;

* Plan, design and analyze data from experiments to generate high quality results to support project decisions and breakthroughs.
* Recruit, retain and develop yourself and your colleagues to continuously improve individual and team contributions.
* Identify and develop external partnerships with industrial and academic partners and leaders in the target validation field.

Essential for the role
This role requires a strong scientific drive together with expertise in stem cell models, proven experience in target discovery and validation and mechanistic biology studies combined with a strong strategic and people leadership profile. You also need:

* Engaging line management experience with clarity of purpose, excellent communication skills and a passion for science, project delivery and personal and team development.
* Ph.D. in Cell Biology or equivalent with +8 years of industry or academia experience.
* Track record on leading mechanistic target biology studies in Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Renal or Respiratory disease areas.
* Demonstrable impact and innovation capacity through strong publication record and external scientific reputation within the stem cell field.
* Experience with using bioinformatics platforms to inform target validation approaches.
