To further strengthen our expertise and capacity we are now recruiting a world-class Scientist within Computational Chemistry.
AstraZeneca is committed to the development of the next generation of innovative respiratory medicines. The Computational Chemistry team leads efforts to expand the use of state of the art in silico methods for modelling, ligand design, property predictions and data analysis supporting the RIA drug discovery projects focused on small to medium-sized molecules. The team operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with scientists from the Chemistry, Bioscience, DMPK and Pharmaceutical Sciences departments to advance the RIA project pipeline.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will have a profound impact on multiple projects across the RIA portfolio, with a focus on target identification, lead generation and lead optimization. Your particular focus will be structure-based design and simulations.
You will have a key role in modelling and analysis of large datasets and drug design. You will be a significant contributor to project progression and a project team member. Furthermore, you will also provide discipline based scientific leadership and represent the department and AstraZeneca at interdisciplinary meetings and conferences, both internally and externally.
Accountabilities and responsibilities:
* Deliver profound expertise in structure-based drug design projects
* Simultaneously impact multiple discovery projects by efficiently and pro-actively applying a wide variety of computer-aided drug design approaches
* Analyze, interpret and visualize biological data and communicate results within project teams and departments
* Identify and drive areas of scientific improvements for computational chemistry
* Plan, compose and publish high quality scientific papers
Essential Requirements
We are looking for a senior computational chemist, motivated to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. You are expected to have a high degree of independence and to act as an authority in a number techniques, to assist target identification and advancement of discovery programs.
* PhD (or equivalent experience) in computational chemistry, chemistry, pharmacology or a related field
* Strong computational background and excellent knowledge of modern computational chemistry
* chemistry and medicinal chemistry concepts
* Expertise in using computational chemistry software as well as knowledge in scientific computing, and programming skills (e.g. Python, Perl, C, C++, Java)
* Experience from drug discovery teams with a track record of working in drug design projects
* Profound expertise in structure-based drug design and biophysical methods
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Industry experience preferred
