We have an opening for a tenure track position at a vibrant, international and outward-looking work environment in the lively city of Gothenburg on the west-coast of Sweden. We offer you rewarding tasks and the freedom for you to develop your research and teaching excellence in your goal towards making a real difference.

The Computing Science Division is recruiting an Assistant Professor. The position is open to qualified applicants with research and teaching excellence in any area broadly covered by the Division, such as programming languages, cybersecurity and privacy, natural language processing, formal methods, logic, and type theory. Our research spans the whole spectrum of computer science, from theoretical foundations to application areas. We have extensive national and international collaboration with academia and industry all around the world.

Information about the department
The Computing Science Division is a part of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) which is a joint department at both Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. Around 90 faculty members and 120 PhD students, hailing from around 40 different countries, are engaged in research and education across the full spectrum of computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, and interaction design, from foundations to applications. The department is organized into four academic divisions: Computing Science, Data Science and AI, Interaction Design and Software Engineering, and Computer and Network Systems.

Major responsibilities
The main part of your job (80 %) will be to conduct research as part of a research group, resulting in yearly publication in academically recognised forums. You should continuously apply for research funding for your own research or for collaboration with academia or industry. You should also participate in PhD education as a main or co-supervisor. Bachelor and Master level teaching (20 %) is also included in your role.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you should have a doctoral degree in a Computer Science or other relevant area (e.g. mathematics, electrical engineering, physics or similar), not older than 7 years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions can be made for longer periods resulting from documented parental leave, sick leave or military service (the date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree).

For a full decription of the qualification requirements and responsibilities for an Assistant professor position at Chalmers, please consult our Appointment regulations, Chapter 6.4.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.

Our offer to you
The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year, entry-level, faculty position with tenure track, whereby you will acquire both pedagogical and research qualifications. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve their ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop their skills in teaching and supervision, by means of both practical training and independent study. The aim is to achieve the level of Associate Professor within four years and, if successful, you will be offered a permanent faculty position at Chalmers.

At Chalmers we seek to establish a good work/life balance. We want to provide you with the means to pick the best path possible in your pursuit of making a difference. Our ambitions in this area are reflected in the generous employment conditions, including:
holiday allowance of up to 7 weeks per year
a collective agreement including parental pay, sick pay supplement, and medicine costs
a wellness allowance towards activities promoting good health
flexible working conditions

Sweden's extensive social welfare system means, for example, that you are entitled to 390 days of paid parental leave, and education at all levels is free. Chalmers offers courses in the Swedish language. Although most of our work is in English, and English is widely spoken throughout Swedish society, developing a good knowledge of Swedish is an advantage in everyday life and in the workplace, and we offer to help you unlock this dimension of life in Sweden.

Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.
