Assistant professor of Educational Work - With special focus on Young people's career development and school-to-work transitions
Over the next few years Umeå University will promote research in the area of educational sciences in an extraordinary way. A number of researchers will be recruited in nine areas, one of which is Young People's Education, Career Development and Welfare (YECW) is run by the department of Child and Youth Education, Special Education and Counselling. YECW focuses on young people in school and in transition between education and work, their welfare and career development from individual, institutional, policy and structural perspectives. International comparisons are central. At present, YECW is based on seven research projects, mainly financed by the Swedish research council, and includes 19 senior and junior researchers from different disciplines. We are currently seeking an assistant professor who can contribute to further development and expansion of the research programme, focusing specifically on career development and school-to-work transitions. The employment period will be 2010-2013.
Individuals with a relevant PhD (or equivalent) that was awarded no more than 5 years ago are eligible for the position of assistant professor.
The primary role of an assistant professor is to pursue research. The successful applicant will be expected to engage with the wider research group. He or she will also be expected to attract external grants, and to collaborate actively with scientists at Umeå University and in other national and international universities. The position also includes teaching and supervision, mainly at postgraduate level (appr. 20 percent of the time).
In the evaluation of the application, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific skills. Candidates should possess pedagogical and administrative skills and be able to demonstrate an ability to collaborate with other researchers and actors outside the university. Experience from teaching at different levels and career guidance are regarded as a merit.
