The Department of Mathematical Sciences is recruiting an Assistant Professor to join the Division of Analysis and Probability Theory. As a tenure-track Assistant Professor you will contribute to our expertise in the area of Probability Theory.

Information about the Department and the Division
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is one of the largest departments of mathematical sciences in the Nordic countries. The department consists of three divisions: Division of Algebra and Geometry, Division of Analysis and Probability Theory, and Division of Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

We contribute in a significant way to society by extensive research and education. The environment is supportive, stimulating, and international, and with a continuous flow of international guests. More information about us is available on the website: http://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/math/

The division of Analysis and Probability Theory conducts research in areas such as harmonic analysis and partial differential equations, probability and discrete mathematics, functional analysis and operator algebras, and mathematical physics. We invite applications for Assistant Professor at the division to strengthen our research in Probability Theory. A sample of probability related research topics at our department includes interacting particle systems and percolation, statistical mechanics, noise sensitivity, stochastic partial differential equations, mixing rates for Markov chains, ergodic theory, stochastic optimization, stochastic geometry and point processes.

Major responsibilities
You are expected to formulate and lead a research program in mathematics with emphasis on probability theory and engage in activities for attracting external funding. The duties also include teaching and possibly outreach activities, up to a total of 25%. You will be course responsible, which involves planning and performing teaching at all levels. The position also includes supervision of students' independent work at the undergraduate, MSc and PhD levels, depending on your current competence. There will also be a certain amount of departmental committee work.

Contract terms
The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year, entry-level, faculty position with tenure track, whereby you will acquire both pedagogical and research qualifications. An Assistant Professor is expected to improve their ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop their skills in teaching and supervision, by means of both practical training and independent study. The aim is to achieve the level of Associate Professor within four years and, if successful, you will be offered a permanent faculty position at Chalmers.

Qualifications
You must have a doctoral degree in mathematics or other relevant field not older than 7 years prior to the application deadline*. Exceptions can be made for documented periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.

You should have demonstrated the ability to publish in highly ranked journals or conference proceedings relevant to the field. Since we have a strong collaborative research culture, we look for a candidate who can contribute to the existing research focus as well as develop new areas in Probability Theory.

We conduct education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in professional education. You are expected to be involved in this teaching. In the evaluation of the applicants, emphasis will be put on research qualifications, but pedagogical potential and merits will also play an important role.

Meritorious qualifications for the position are:
• Postdoctoral position or an analogous position is required, and it is a merit if performed at another department or organization than where the doctoral studies were performed
• Experience of course development
• Experience in applying for research funding is required, and it is a merit if the funding has been granted

• Active participation in international research within the subject area
• Active engagement in the wider research community

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. As Chalmers undergraduate education is held in Swedish, and Swedish is the administrative working language at the university, Chalmers offers Swedish courses for non-Swedish speaking staff.

For a full decription of the qualification requirements for an Assistant professor position at Chalmers, please consult our Appointment regulations, Chapter 6.4.

• The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.
