Assistant professor in Molecular Cell Biology
The Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University is building up its strength in Molecular Cell Biology, and we are looking for good candidates for a position as Assistant Professor in the field.
The Department of Molecular Biology is seeking applicant for a four-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the autumn semester of 2008. A successful applicant should have a record of outstanding research in the field of Molecular Cell Biology.
Competence in teaching animal physiology will be an advantage.
The Department of Molecular Biology is affiliated to both the Faculty of Science and Technology and to the Faculty of Medicine at the actively expanding University of Umeå. The department has a pronounced international character with many guest researchers and graduate students from other countries. The independent research groups work in modern laboratories with well-equipped common facilities, which create a framework for a creative and highly interactive environment.
The specific research interests of the different groups are interconnected by a common interest in central questions concerning the molecular mechanisms regulating cellular processes in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The successful applicants should be committed to establishing independent, externally funded research groups and demonstrate an innovative line of research with good potential for new discoveries.
The position is for two years, normally with a prolongation of another two years. Successful applicants can get specific “start-up grants from the Faculty of Science and Technology to initiate research. The Faculty encourages assistant professors to participate in undergraduate teaching up to 20% of their working time. Such teaching participation qualifies for an extension of the position up to five years. Courses are given in Swedish or English, therefore foreign applicants should have proficiency in English.
