The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Division
The position is in the biostatistics group.

The primary activities of the biostatistics group include (i) own research in design and analysis of population-based studies, genetic epidemiology and molecular epidemiology, (ii) collaboration with medical researchers, and (iii) biostatistics teaching both at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Duties
The position suits applicants who are interested in developing a career in the intersection of statistics, computing and biosciences. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary research team with collaboration with clinical research groups. The applicant should be able to work closely with this interdisciplinary team and to acquire the necessary medical, biological and epidemiological knowledge as necessary to make meaningful contributions.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor in computer science (or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence), with specialization and substantial experience in data analyses and statistical modelling of high-throughput molecular and omics data, including (i) transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics data, (ii) next generation sequencing (NGS) data, and (iii) single-cell genomics. The applicant must also have previous publications that indicate (i) ability to develop novel methodologies in analysing omics, NGS and single-cell data, and (ii) experience working with medical applications.

The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

An Assistant professor position is a fixed-term position. The first employment should be two years, with a possible extension of two years after evaluation.
