The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 9 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.



We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to for a position of Assistant professor to establish a research group at Division of Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Flemingsberg, Karolinska Institutet (http://ki.

se/en/labmed/division-of-pathology-0) with the aim to develop a 3D in vitro-model for bone biology and to elucidate cell signaling within the bone remodeling unit and to develop diagnostics of prosthetic implant inflammation and osteomyelitis in general.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants with post-doctoral research experience, who are experienced in bone cell biology as well as have a strong publication record in research. Candidates with extensive experience in imaging, immunoassay development, applications of nanoparticles, stem cell research, cell signaling and advanced cell culture protocols are prioritized. Knowledge and experience in bone remodeling, osteoclastogenesis, OB differentiation OB-OC - coupling and osteocyte biology and related methods is preferable. State-of-the-art experience with high-content imaging and analysis is a merit.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated and able to keep herself/himself informed on developments of the relevant research field, and also, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work productively and dynamically in a team. Applicant must be able to integrate well into the group and international and multidisciplinary research environment as a whole. Excellent skills in spoken and written English are a requirement, knowledge of spoken and written Swedish is a merit. The selected candidate will work as part of a team, in close collaboration with experienced scientists, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students.

An Assistant professor position is a fixed-term position. The first employment should be two years, with a possible extension of two years after evaluation.

At Division of Pathology, the groups are part of a highly interactive research environment within bone biology, cancer research and regenerative medicine. The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 9 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet. The department is also tightly connected with clinical researchers and healthcare teams at several departments of the Karolinska University Hospital, which allows for translational research involving clinical material and the potential to bring new therapies from bench to bedside. The facilities at Laboratory Medicine offer state-of-the art cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry and microscopy facilities. Our vision for the department's research is to promote human health. This research often leads to new diagnostic methods, which can then be used clinically, or to new treatment principles. Our research is translational and it often explores entirely new patient treatments involving cell therapy and stem cell therapy.
