hela Sverige The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.
Unit
This position is located in the Unit of Environmental Epidemiology, IMM.
The Unit has a broad interest in environmental and molecular epidemiology research, mechanistic studies and adverse health effects. Molecular biomarkers are increasingly used to assess interactions between environmental and hereditary factors as well as to better characterize exposure and health outcomes.
Duties
The applicant is required to plan, conduct and publish studies in the field of health effects of air pollution in children and adults, including investigation of underlying biological mechanisms involving large-scale molecular studies of genetic, epigenetic and transcriptomic markers. The applicant is also expected to participate in risk assessment activities. The selected candidate will work as part of a team, in close collaboration with postdocs and graduate students.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The person appointed should primarily be someone who has been granted a Degree of Doctor or has reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.
We are looking for an experienced and independent researcher with advanced knowledge in environmental epidemiology, with experience in the area of air pollution research and molecular epidemiology and who holds a PhD in epidemiology. The applicant should have experience in planning and coordinating research projects within the field relevant to the tasks described. Experience in statistical analysis of large-scale biological data is a merit. The applicant must have a track record with peer reviewed publications and having received external competitive funding relevant to the scope of the position. The work requires excellent command of English and working knowledge of Swedish. Most projects are conducted in international collaboration, therefore, previous experience from international collaborations is an asset. Other merits include experience in risk assessment, teaching and supervision of students. The applicant will need to feel comfortable both with working in a team and as an independent researcher.

An Assistant professor position is a fixed-term position. The first employment should be two years, with a possible extension of two years after evaluation.
