As part of these ambitions, the Department of Physics seeks a curious and creative individual, active in the area of Advanced Electron Microscopy, to join us as an Assistant Professor with tenure track or as an Associate Professor. We seek candidates with innovative research ideas who value scientific freedom to pursue their aspirations. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on imaging, spectroscopy and method development in the areas of advanced electron microscopy, with particular interest in in situ approaches (see this link for an overview of present research activities at the department).

The department hosts the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory which is currently home to three transmission electron microscopes along with supporting infrastructure. Through our cross-departmental research arenas in, e.g., Nanoscience, Energy, and Materials you will have the opportunity to find collaborations and grow your network within the university and beyond as well as with our industrial and societal partners.
Position Overview
Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)
• A four-year faculty position with tenure assessment.
• Conduct independent research, publish in leading journals, secure funding, and develop teaching skills.
Associate Professor (Tenured Position)
• A permanent faculty position for an established researcher.
• Lead high-impact research, publish in top-tier journals, attract funding, and advance as an educator.
In both positions you will perform your own research, to build and lead an internationally recognized research group, and to advance the research and teaching activities in Advanced Electron Microscopy at the department and Chalmers levels.
You will foster both independent and collaborative research in your field, teach general and specialist courses at the bachelor's and master's levels, attract research funding, and supervise students at all academic levels. The position also includes cooperation and exchange of knowledge with external partners, as well as internal development work at the department.
Qualifications
Assistant Professor:
• PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field (within last *7 years, with exceptions for leave).
• Demonstrated research potential and teaching experience.
• Supervision of BSc/MSc students.
• Merits: Pedagogical training, PhD student co-supervision.
Associate Professor:
• PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field.
• Strong research and teaching track record.
• Experience in student supervision and pedagogical training (If pedagogical requirements are unmet, candidates may complete training within two years of appointment.
Both positions require strong verbal and written English skills.
• The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree. Exceptions from the 7-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
Selection Process
This is an open-rank position (Assistant or Associate Professor), with the level determined by the candidate's qualifications. Evaluations will be conducted by the department, the Chalmers Faculty Appointment Committee, and external reviewers, following both the job criteria in the ad and Rules of Procedure - Chalmers University of Technology's Appointment Regulations for Teaching and Research Faculty.

Regarding the Associate Professor position: Applicants who do not yet meet the formal pedagogical requirements may be hired permanently, provided they complete the necessary pedagogical training within two years. A well-structured pedagogical portfolio is however essential to attach in your application.
