hela Sverige Visa alla jobb hos Stiftelsen Stockholm International Water Institute i Stockholm SIWI is currently recruiting an Applied Economist -Programme Manager- for a complex and long-term project in the MENA region - programme development in the Africa Region and also to contribute to the programming and development of the Water Economics Theme within Knowledge Services.
Areas of responsibility
The incumbent will support the Chief Economist and will collaborate closely with SIWIs main regional partners in Middle East and the Africa Region with focus on:
• Work with biophysical scientists on the identification and application of economic data and information
• Develop economic indicators across a range of water and non-water topics, micro and macro and institutional
• Design and application of economic instruments in practice
• Development and assessment of investment options based on social, financial and environmental criteria
• Develop political economy analysis, including institutional and behavioral changes analysis
• Support the development of the Water Economics Theme at SIWI. The incumbent will be supervised by the Chief Economist.
Main tasks
• Collecting social, political, economic and cultural data
• Identifying and applying appropriate methodologies for analyses
• Identifying and applying approaches for regional socio-economic analysis, including political economy analysis
• Identifying and applying approaches for institutional and behavioral change analysis
• Assessing tradeoffs and impacts of management options across scales and sectors, including investment prioritization and options analysis
• Valuation of resource, social, environmental goods and services
• Impact assessments, cost-benefit analysis, and policy and project decision-making;
• Managing term of references, drafting and following up on contracts, scheduling meetings, budgeting project tasks, continuous financial monitoring, updating the results based management system and monitoring internal and external risks
• Supporting the preparation of agendas and drafting high-level meeting minutes
• Monthly work planning submissions
• Contribute to the evaluation of programme goals, objectives and risks including strategic planning for future activities
• Identifying, developing and managing strategic activities for the Water Economics Theme
Extensive travel to the Middle East region primarily and also to the Africa Region and to programme partners will be required.
Experience and skills required
The incumbent should have at least five to ten years of relevant experience from economics, acquired either in a business or a not-for-profit environment, as well as two or more of the following fields:
• Resource Management or Water Management
• Risk Management
• Programme Management
• International Development
• Sustainable Development
Work experience in the Middle East and Africa region is highly desirable.
Academic achievements
An academic degree in economics, minimum requirement: MA or MSc.
