BioArctic's antibody technology
We develop unique antibody treatments targeting misfolded and aggregated proteins that underlie neurodegenerative diseases. More specifically our antibody drugs target the soluble, and more toxic forms of the disease-causing proteins, known as oligomers or protofibrils. By direct neutralization or eliciting an immune reaction toward the proteins, the oligomers and protofibrils are cleared, also rendering late-stage protein accumulation less likely to occur.
The high level of selectivity of pathological aggregated proteins enables us to avoid interaction with the physiological function of the protein, which has become an important feature in BioArctic's antibody technology.
A brain transporter technology to cross the blood-brain barrier
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) controls the passage of substances between the bloodstream and the brain. It protects the brain from harmful substances, but at the same time, it can make the delivery of drugs, especially large molecules such as antibodies, to the brain more difficult.
We are developing a Brain Transporter (BT) technology that is built on modified antibodies that can actively be transported across the BBB into the brain. A new version of this technology, which has already demonstrated a robust increase in antibody exposure in the brain, is under development. The new version is now being applied in our drug discovery programs where beneficial effects can be expected due to improvement in brain exposure.
Your part of the project
As our expert on antibody developability and engineering, you have an extra responsibility to bridge late research and early development, making sure that the antibodies are manufacturable, stable and specific. Your responsibilities include:
• Development and implementation of engineering strategies to tailor potency, stability, selectivity and overall manufacturability of antibodies
• Characterization of antibodies with biophysical and biochemical methods
• Antibody lead selection and optimization
Qualifications
This job is for a senior expert with extensive knowledge of antibody developability engineering. You have:
• PhD or correspondent work experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or other relevant discipline
• Expertise in working with biological therapeutic modalities including bi- and multi-specific antibodies as well as antibody fusion proteins relevant for drug discovery
• Experience of antibody developability assessment and optimization using sequence- and structure-based protein modeling tools and protein engineering
• Experience of conducting assessments of antibody candidates related to stability, aggregation, post-translational modifications and other properties relevant for CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control)
• Hands on experience of protein characterization by biochemical and biophysical methods.
• Experience of working in the discovery phase at the interphase between antibody engineering/developability and CMC development.
• Experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry
