Are you a skillful scientist with experience from Pharmaceutical Development? We are now looking for an Analytical Chemist for an interesting and challanging position at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. The role is a consultant assignment and with the right profile and a lot of passion, this might be the start of a fruitful employment at Pema Engineering & Science.

AstraZeneca is a global, science-driven biopharmaceutical company. We are dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering innovative, meaningful medicines and healthcare solutions that enrich the lives of patients.

Early Product Development, Pharmaceutical Sciences

Pharmaceutical Sciences is a newly created department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects span traditional small molecules to RNA based therapies across AstraZeneca's therapy areas.

We now have an open temporary position and are looking for an experienced analytical chemist with a focus on characterization of drug products (solid dosage forms and liquid formulations) and drug substances, developing analytical methods and contributing to analytical submission activities for early development phases.

The role

The role will be primarily laboratory based, where analytical science expertise, with combination of theoretical and technical knowledge in organic and physical chemistry is a must. As a member of an Early Product Development team, you will work alongside a mixed skill group comprising Analytical, Biopharmaceutics, Formulation, and Solid State science. The role holder will be leading pharmaceutical analytical project activities, including driving the analytical quality control and regulatory strategies for the projects.

In this role you will:

• Develop and validate appropriate test methodology and specifications for drug product for pre-clinical and clinical use.
• Apply key techniques such as liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR to provide input into the assessment of the developability of candidate drugs, and to the release of formulations and drug substances for use in pre-clinical studies.
• Apply key techniques such as liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR in the GMP release testing of formulations for use in clinical studies.
• Apply detailed scientific knowledge and maintain awareness of the new developments in the area of analytical science.
• Generate, assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpret findings and draw conclusions and recommendations so that their significance can be appreciated in cross-functional interactions. Engage customers in development of solutions by applying a broader perspective.
• Present information for discussion at project teams, within the function and/or across other functions.
• Work as a member of cross-functional teams, with a large degree of independence representing own department or area of expertise to lead related analytical chemistry activities.
• Ensure that work is performed in accordance to quality systems and with appropriate safety.
• Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards and where appropriate to GMP.
• Contribute to generation of documents for regulatory submissions or queries.
• Maintain knowledge of the regulatory and compliance guidelines as related to the role.
• Develop personal performance by actively seeking feedback and support from peers.

Minimum experience

• Educational background at MSc and/or research level (PhD) in a discipline relevant to analytical chemistry or equivalent qualifications and experience.
• Experience in dealing with technical analytical problems and in resolving complex analytical issues.
• Experience from working with HPLC/UPLC and NMR
• Knowledge of the analytical area such as method development, method validation, stability testing, and setting specifications.
• Work experience from a regulated environment (GLP/GMP) and from a pharmaceutical company would be advantageous
