You will be part of Robotics in Västerås. We develop, manufactures and markets robots and associated control systems, software, arc welding products, tracks and motor packages. We have bases in Västerås, Jönköping and the Gothenburg area in Sweden. Over 90% of our production goes to export and our customers include all major auto manufacturers. The auto industry and its sub suppliers and to an increasing extent general industry, such as the food industry, are automating their production with robots. Welding, machine tending, materials management, grinding, packaging and assembly are the most common applications. Our robots and robotics are sold via local ABB companies and via independent systems integrators and OEM companies - companies we call our Partners.
Tasks
As part of the Mechanical Analysis team in Västerås, your main mission will be to work with future development methods based on field and application data. Thanks to sensors and connectivity, much more data become available from lab tests and customer applications. This gives new opportunities for improved design, better testing methods and more optimized products. As Analysis Engineer, you will manage statistical and probabilistic analysis, design optimization and development of new design and test criteria.
In the group, we use advanced simulation tools to analyze and optimize the robot mechanics and drivetrain with respect to performance, strength, lifetime and cost. The work is carried out in projects in close collaboration between designers, mechanical analysis engineers, our test lab and the motion control team. This varying role will provide you with the opportunity to form the future of robotics mechanical development.
You are an analytical, creative and solution oriented person with at least a Master's degree in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. You have a deep interest and knowledge in data analytics methods and common scientific programming tools such as Matlab, VBA, Python or C/C++.
Furthermore, you should also have an interest in, and experience from, mechanics such as stress/strength, material properties, mechanical reliability and lifetime predictions.
