Rooted in a scientific analysis of risk, the Foundation brings together the brightest minds from academia, politics, business and civil society to forge transformative approaches to secure a better future for all.
The Foundation was founded in 2012 by the Swedish investor and author Laszlo Szombatfalvy. Having fled to Sweden in 1956 from unrest in Hungary, he took interest in the stock market and the analysis of financial risk. His analytic abilities proved highly successful and after a lifelong career as an investor he applied his scientific approach to risk on the greatest challenges facing humanity. Concluding that these are gravely underestimated by political and business leaders, Szombatfalvy decided to put a major portion of his accumulated wealth into the Global Challenges Foundation.
The Foundation's work is based on the belief that today's global challenges such as climate change, conflict and extreme poverty are the product of an increasingly interdependent world. They transcend national borders, potentially affecting large swathes of the world's population. As such, they demand urgent global solutions. But the current system of international governance that has evolved over the last 70 years since WW2 is not equipped to deal with the scale of today's challenges. The Foundation acts as a convening platform to bring together leading thinkers from diverse disciplines to discuss how these risks might be better managed by the world community.
In Fall 2016 the Foundation will launch a major Prize competition designed to spark ideas for new models of international cooperation equal to the job of tackling them. We will ask entrants to design frameworks for international cooperation and decision-making capable of addressing global challenges, and is open to anyone anywhere; whether from academia, policymaking, civil society or other sectors such as technology or law.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Running an efficient organization requires good infrastructure and routines. As the new Administration Assistant you will make sure the day to day operations work flawlessly, and that upcoming activities are carefully planned and implemented. Assigned tasks range from the very small, such as handling correspondence, invoices, contracts, to larger efforts such as planning entire international trips with everything that goes along in terms of itinerary etc.
You are careful and attentive to details, but know when to spend time on what. As the activities of the Foundation shift depending on current projects and events, you are able to jump from between potentially very disparate tasks without losing track. You will be working in a small team, but on a global arena, so language skills are essential and a great addition is the ability to cooperate and coordinate with people from all nationalities, cultures and backgrounds.
The Foundation is inspired by the belief that human ingenuity, properly channeled, can avert catastrophe and provide a better future for all. If you share that belief, you will be part of an organization that makes a true difference.
