HDK-Valand at the University of Gothenburg is centrally located in Gothenburg and is closely linked to the city's cultural life - and includes collaborations with, among others, L'Internationale Online, Gothenburg Konsthall, Hasselblad Center, Roda Sten Konsthall, Platform for Artistic Research Sweden (PARSE), Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) and many other cultural initiatives.

HDK-Valand is recruiting an adjunct in Literary Composition. The appointment is for five months, and 30 % of full-time. It will consist of planning and teaching a first-cycle free-standing course called ADAB, with the newly merged unit Film / Photo / Literary Composition at HDK-Valand.

Subject area description
The free-standing course ADAB in Literary Composition is directed to peopele based in Sweden who are professional writers in Arabic. It is an opportunity to gain new knowledge about literary environments in Sweden and about issues concerning translation, publishing and reading.



Eligibility
The eligibility for employment as a teacher is given in Chapters 3 to 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employability scheme for teachers.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Documented experience in teaching at undergraduate level

• Demonstrated ability to lead workshops in creative writing

• Demonstrated interest in teaching in international or cross-cultural contexts

• Documented experience of working with literature in Arabic and Swedish contexts and with the transfer between them

• Fluency in Arabic

• Good communication skills in English, basic communication skills in Swedish

• A broad and relevant network

Assessment
Particular importance will be paid to experience of writing in an Arabic and a Swedish context, pedagogical skills including demonstrated interest in workshop as a format for teaching creative writing and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Candidates for this position as adjunct teaching at this course are expected to have written and oral fluency in Arabic. The teaching practises will include workshops, seminars and lectures in English and candidates are expected to have good communication skills in English and a documented ability to make use of these pedagogic formats.

Candidates are expected to be able to evidence teaching experience in creative writing at undergraduate levels, especially in the form of workshops.

Candidates are expected to have a good knowledge of contemporary Arabic and Swedish literature and experience of working with the transfer of literary work between Swedish and Arabic.

Candidates are expected to have an ongoing literary practise and to be published authors.

Literary Composition at HDK-Valand has a reputation for excellence in teaching and artistic research.

We will primarily consider the candidate who, after a comprehensive assessment of documented qualifications and skills, is expected to have the best prerequisites for the position as adjunct.
