Position description
A position as Associate Senior Lecturer is a fixed-term merit-rated appointment of at least four and at no more than six years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 12a.
The purpose of the employment is that the teacher shall be given the opportunity to develop his or her autonomy as a researcher and to become qualified both academically and pedagogically to fulfil the requirements for appointment as a Senior Lecturer.
The Future Energy Center is one of Sweden's strongest environments in process optimization targeting the process industry and the energy sector. We develop innovative solutions and tools within the areas of energy, building and environmental engineering.
Within the Future Energy Center we offer under-graduate education within the areas of energy, environmental and building engineering. We also offers studies at post-graduate level in Energy and Environmental engineering.
As an assistant senior lecturer at Future Energy Center you will be part of research, teaching as well as collaboration with our industrial partners. Your research will be focused on one or several of the areas within renewable energy, biomass, bioenergy, environmental engineering, waste water treatment, energy efficiency, emissions mitigation, simulation and optimization for future industrial applications. You will work in collaboration with other researchers both internally and externally as well as submitting and reviewing application for future funding.
The position is temporary (4-6 years) but will be transformed to a permanent position if the following requirements are fulfilled at the end of the employment period.

The qualification requirements for appointment as an Associate Senior Lecturer are primarily a degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic skills, no more than five years before the closing date for application for the post of Associate Senior Lecturer has expired.
A person who has a degree of Doctor, or has previously acquired equivalent skills may, however, be considered if there are particular reasons for this. Such particular reasons may leave of absence on account of illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

In general terms the assessment criteria shall be based on the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to fulfil the duties well.
With regard to the nature of this merit-rated employment, the applicant's academic and teaching merits will be assessed above all in respect of quality. A quantitative precedent of an applicant, which can be explained by the applicant having worked for a longer period, will therefore not be decisive.
The same attention shall be paid to the assessment of teaching skills as to the assessment of academic skills.

At the end of the employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer the applicant has the right to considered for employment as a Senior Lecturer. A basic requirement is that the applicant shall meet the requirements set to be admitted as an Associate Professor at Mälardalen University.
