Department of Animal Nutrition and Management
The Department offers an inspiring research environment where we carry out basic and applied research on chemical nutrient composition, animal metabolism, housing and management. The goal is to create a sustainable and profitable production with good animal care that provides high quality food. The Department works with farm species as well as sport and pet animals. The research is often interdisciplinary and carried out in co-operation with other Departments, both in Sweden and abroad. Research in sustainable livestock systems in the tropics is also an important part of the activities at the Department. Within the poultry research area, our goal is to develop knowledge in the area of nutrition, housing and management of meat-type chickens and laying hens.

Project:
The post doc will be involved in several projects evaluating effects of different feed additives with bioactive substances such as algae products on the development of microbiota, digestive tract, immune response and production performance in broiler chickens. Moreover, the ability of algae extracts to improve transfer of antibodies and important nutrients from the hen to the egg and thereby possibility to improve chick viability will be studied.

Duties:
The postdoc will be responsible for statistical analysis and for drafting and publishing scientific papers from the projects, and will participate in data collection and lab analyses during animal experiments. Possibilities to participate in the teaching at the department will be given.

Qualifications:
The candidate should hold a PhD in animal science, veterinary medicine, medical science, biology, microbiology or a similar subject that the employer deems equivalent. The candidate should have obtained the PhD degree before starting the position. Preference will be given to candidates who have been awarded the degree no more than three years before starting the employment. The candidate should have documented experience of independently analysing and interpreting microbiota/microbiome data. Previous experience of animal experiments, lab work and the R software is meriting. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for this position. A strong publication record (in relation to the time since dissertation) in quality peer reviewed journals is a merit.
