The Privacy & Usability (Privacy & Us) EU H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA ITN Privacy & Us) will fund 13 PhD positions in the area of usable privacy starting August 2016 - see also:

The objective is to train thirteen creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early stage researchers (ESRs) to be able to face both current and future challenges in the area of privacy and usability. All ESR positions also involve secondments (i.e., internships) of 8-10 months to other academic and non-academic Privacy & Us host organisations or partners to broaden the students' training and enrich their skills and experiences.
Two of the PhD positions/ESRs will be hosted at the Privacy and Security Group (PriSec) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karlstad University:
Position 1: Usable Transparency

Research and explore HCI techniques for designing usable user interfaces that enhance transparency and help users to control the personal big data traces that they leave online.

Position 2: Measuring and Manipulating Privacy-related Attitudes and Behaviors

Further the understanding of users' privacy-related decision-making process with the overreaching goal to minimize the current attitude-behavioral gap for privacy-related behaviors.
Secondments: Tel Aviv University (Israel), Usecon Usability Consultants GmbH (Austria), Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Austria)
Required Qualifications
Knowledge or experience in the areas of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), and especially usable security & privacy, as well as good programming skills are desirable. In particular, we welcome experiences in the design and implementation of usable user interfaces and in conducting user studies and the statistical analysis on data, as well as a basic understanding of psychological usability aspects.
Basic knowledge of information security, privacy concepts, and privacy-enhancing technologies is desirable as well.
Candidates should demonstrate high ability to understand and express themselves very well in both written and spoken English in order to derive the full benefit from the network training.
The candidate should be able to work independently, as well as in a team; and be enthusiastic about pushing the state-of-the-art.
Eligibility
Eligible for the positions are candidates with a University degree of 240 ECTS, of which at least 60 ECTS were awarded for courses at advanced level and have a Master's degree or the Swedish Magister or Civilingenjör Degrees in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent. Eligible are also those candidates who have achieved corresponding degrees or knowledge in Sweden or abroad.
The positions are not restricted to EU citizens, however, applicants cannot have resided for more than 12 months over the past 3 years in Sweden by August 2016.
The positions are restricted to Early Stage Researcher (ESR), defined as candidates that are at the time of recruitment in the first four years of their research careers, which is measured from the date when they have obtained their degrees, which entitle them to enroll for a PhD prorgamme.
Terms
The positions are limited to 4 years. The first 3 years of those 4 years will be funded by the MSCA ITN Privacy & Us. The date for filling the positions is August 1, 2016.
Admission
Admission is based on individual assessment of the candidates' abilities to successfully pass the research education.
