Maximum of four years' full-time study
Description
Funding for these positions includes up to four years of full-time study, including coursework and thesis. Particular consideration will be given to candidates wishing to specialise in one of the following areas:
Corpus and discourse approaches to English applied linguistics
Teaching and learning English as a second or foreign language
Language variation and change in English
Corpus-based approaches to the emergence of Global Englishes
Research topics in other areas are also possible provided that they lie within an area of expertise for the supervisory staff. Applicants who would like to address another topic are encouraged to discuss this before submitting an application (see contact details below).
These positions may include up to 20% teaching and/or administrative tasks. The successful applicants will be expected to be active in the research environment and play an active role within the department, and to spend the majority of their working time at the department.
Selection criteria
General eligibility criteria
The successful candidate must
• have been awarded a second-cycle qualification;
• have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded at second-cycle level, or
• have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
Specific eligibility requirements for English linguistics
• at least 120 ECTS credits in the English subject, of which at least 30 credits are at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge gained in some other way in Sweden or abroad;
• two independent research works in the subject English comprising 15 credits each or one independent work comprising 30 credits, of which at least one was awarded at second-cycle level, or the equivalent carried out in some other way in Sweden or abroad;
• proficiency in Swedish (desirable but not compulsory).

The Higher Education Ordinance provides for transition rules for eligibility for admission to a postgraduate programme which are in force through 2015.
Eligibilityâ-transition rules
Those who had satisfied the basic eligibility requirements (Bachelor's degree and 60 points in the subject within the previous point system) before 1 July 2007 shall be considered to have basic eligibility for postgraduate studies.
Other eligibility criteria
Consideration will be given to applicants' ability successfully to complete postgraduate studies in English linguistics. This determination will be made on the basis of the applicants' academic abilities as demonstrated by their written work and an interview. Applicants should submit a short research proposal which will be in part a basis for decision.
