Within the Sahlgrenska Academy, our research - ranging from molecules to humans - focuses on understanding the causes of ill health. We also strive to ensure that our findings can be rapidly translated into better diagnostics and treatment. The faculty board at the Sahlgrenska Academy has chosen to announce two positions in medical and health science research. Depending on the subject area of the selected candidates, they will be placed within one of the academy's six institutes.The Sahlgrenska Academy is the medical faculty at the University of Gothenburg. In recent years, we have seen a strong development of our research environment. To further strengthen our position, we have now launched a programme to recruit the next generation of research leaders in the field of medicine and health science. As a senior lecturer within our academy, you will be part of one of the most successful medical research and teaching environments in Europe, with more than 1750 employees and 5000 students.Subject area description: Medical and health science research encompasses the research conducted at the Sahlgrenska Academy. We conduct research and teaching in medicine, dentistry and nursing science. The research activities include studies at different levels from molecules to humans, with the aim of understanding the underlying causes of disease and illness. We also work to ensure that the results can quickly be put to use in healthcare in the form of better prevention, diagnosis and treatment.Job assignments: We are looking to recruit a person who conducts innovative and internationally competitive research. The precise direction of the research can be defined by the applicant, but must fall within the field of medicine and health science. The position includes primarily research and secondarily teaching and supervision at basic, advanced and postgraduate levels. The applicant is expected to develop a successful research group and attract external grants in national and international competition, both individually and in collaboration with other researchers. Other tasks may also arise and the nature of the employment may change over time. If applicable, the tasks may include clinical work; in this case, the position may be converted into a joint employment.Eligibility: The qualification for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement. The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.Assessment: Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.In the assessment, the greatest importance will be attached to scientific skills. The applicant must lead an active ongoing, independent scientific activity of high quality and that is internationally competitive. Scientific skills should be demonstrated primarily through publications of high originality, where quality and scientific efforts over the past ten years are given more weight than the total scientific production. Scientific skills should also be demonstrated through the ability to receive and have ongoing research grants in national and/or international competition as the principal applicant. International research experience from prominent scientific environments, for example as a postdoctoral fellow, is an important merit.Pedagogical skills will be given the second largest weight as a basis for assessment. When assessing these skills, emphasis will be placed on documented experience of teaching at the basic, advanced and postgraduate levels. Supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows is a merit.After assessing scientific and pedagogical skills, equal emphasis will be given to demonstrated experience of academic leadership and outreach to society.If appropriate, the position might at a later time-point be converted to a combined position within a clinically relevant area.
