Job assignments

The researcher is expected to conduct studies with the purpose to investigate how antibiotics, biocides and various effluents select for antibiotic resistance in complex communities. The work may involve aquaria-exposure experiments with bacterial biofilms in the lab as well as pelagic bacterial communities, field studies with samplings and close interaction with personnel at sewage treatment plants, culturing of bacteria, isolation of DNA, bacterial culturing, phenotypic and molecular characterization, quantitative PCR, analyses of NGS data and other molecular methods and assays, The fellow is also expected to author/co-author scientific papers, present results at conferences and contribute to the financing of the group by writing applications, primarily to national funding bodies.

PhD in relevant area as well as previous international postdoc experience is a prerequisite, as is good scientific output relative to the time of acquiring a PhD degree. Experience of practical, experimental research on selection of antibiotic resistance in complex aquatic environments on a genetic as well as phenotypic level, experience of analyses of NGS-data and metagenomes, in-depth knowledge of different molecular approaches and experience on pollution-related research is strongly meriting. The applicant need to show excellent communicative abilities in English, both verbally and in writing, experience of writing applications, a high level of independence in the lab, a developed way of critical thinking and a documented ability to work successfully in a group.

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months and full time, 100%, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment 2019-02-01.
