The development of a suitable charging infrastructure network for heavy duty trucks is of high interest for policy and industry. Within this project you will be able to develop state-of-the-art research within this area while working in close collaboration with industry.

Information about the division
The division of Physical Resource Theory is one of five divisions within the department of Space, Earth and Environment. The Division of Physical Resource Theory offers an interdisciplinary research environment that relies on a range of different scientific methods, from energy system modelling and agent-based modelling, to remote sensing, econometrics and surveys. Our aim is to advance challenge-driven scientific excellence by crossing traditional disciplinary boundaries and by increasing the level of cross-collaboration in environmental research as well as with society at large. The division has around 50 staff members, faculty and PhD-students with diverse expertise, including engineers, natural and social scientists. We also offer courses in areas related to our research.

Major responsibilities
Developing a well functioning and appropriate charging and refueling network is essential for reaching a fossil free long-distance truck fleet. The aim of the project is to analyze the charging and refueling needs of the long-distance truck fleet in Europe. You will do this through scenarios for demand and technology mixes taking into account operating constraints and common practices such as distance, hours of operation, costs, etc.. Scenarios may include different shares of fuel mixes (e.g. electricity and hydrogen) and technical solutions such as fast-charging, battery-swapping and electric roads. The project is funded by the Swedish Electromobility Center (SEC) a national competence center for electromobility hosted by Chalmers. Within the Center you will be a "thematic area researcher" specifically connected to the Electromobility in society theme of SEC, while located at the division of Phsyical Resource Theory.

Your main responsibility will be to carry out research work independently, as well as in collaboration with colleagues, within the boundaries of the defined Swedish Electromobility Center (SEC) project. Another role is to organize activities within the Electromobility in Society theme and communicate with industrial and other academic partners as well as the SEC director and central administration, in close collaboration with the thematic leaders. This includes activities such as workshops and seminars, but also to take part in the development of the long-term research roadmap for the thematic area. You are expected to work independently and have the ability to plan and organize both your own work, and events for other researchers and partner industries. You are also expected to take part in other seminars and conferences, both national and international. The project will include travelling, foremost in Sweden, to visit industrial collaborators, and taking responsibility for this relationship is an important responsibility of the position. Personal drive and accountability is very important for the role. You will also take part in teaching activities (up to 20%).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline, including (but not restricted to) engineering, data science, computer science, physics, mathematics, or complex systems. A PhD in a research field closely related to the project description, particularly with research experience in transport research, spatial analysis, computational modeling, is highly meritorious. Documented scientific skills, including demonstrated ability in independent research, publishing in top journals and presenting in international conferences are required.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years with a possible continuation up to two years.
