The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 6 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Division
The Clinical Research Centre (CRC) is a common resource for researchers from different departments at Karolinska Institutet and/or clinics at Karolinska University Hospital.

The major part of the clinical research at Karolinska University Hospital is performed at CRC, presently comprising some 20 research groups with over 150 employees. The Centre provides the facilities needed for cell- and molecular biology research and the possibility to perform research in vivo.

The recruitment of a medical laboratory scientist (BMA) is within the Karolinska Institutet core facility for Morphologic phenotype analysis (FENO), which focuses on comparative pathology as a service and competence center for the entire Karolinska Institutet. FENO has a responsible role providing expertise on necropsy technique, gross morphology, histological technique and histopathology for both researchers within KI and external customers. Methods include immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization for bright field and fluorescent microscopy. We are involved in a variety of research areas, and offer an exciting working environment with a broad scope in a growing field. Analysis of rodent models forms the major part of our involvement and the applicant is expected to have thorough knowledge of rodent anatomy.

Daily activities include reception and registration of materials, histotechnical processing and sectioning of paraffin embedded, and frozen materials, staining and digitizing slides, and documentation of staining results and protocols. Duties can be developed.

The applicant should have a solid background in tissue processing, including knowledge of histochemical staining techniques, tissue structure and embedding for correct positioning and microscopic evaluation. The position requires practical lab experience pereparing paraffin sections and cryosections.

Knowledge of, and experience with the principles of GLP are also highly valued in our daily routines.

We are a customer oriented facility advising on studies with impact on society andscientific development of our clients and excellent human relation skills are important.
