The Volvo Ocean Race is the leading round-the-world yacht race for teams, with a series of stops that give fans the chance to see the boats up close and experience the spectacular In-Port Race series. For almost 40 years, the Volvo Ocean Race has provided the ultimate test in sailing, providing human drama and sporting excitement on a scale like no other.
The route will take in 11 cities in 11 countries – Spain, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, China, New Zealand, Brazil, United States, Portugal, France and Sweden – and will require the teams to cover 38,739 nautical miles – equivalent to 44,580 miles or 71,745 kms.
The Race will start on October 4, 2014, day of the first In-Port Race in Alicante, and finish with a final In-Port Race on June 27, 2015 in Gothenburg, the Swedish home of Volvo.
What will your work day look like?
The Hosts and Hostesses will work as guides and brand ambassadors at Volvo's exhibition, in all stopovers around the world. It is your responsibility to welcome new visitors and interact with them during their stay, presenting products, providing information, assisting with various product simulators and activities offered, as well as giving guided tours in various languages. The hosts and hostesses, together with a responsible manager, will be accountable for the pavilion and its visitors, providing good service and a pleasant visit. You will be the face of Volvo and your service and attitude must be at its best.
The journey will begin in September with a month long training in Gothenburg, where you will get all the information and knowledge needed to succeed as Host/Hostess. The race will start on October 4 in Alicante and your work may be scheduled both weekdays and weekends during the length of each stopover, with at least one day off a week. The assignment will end by the end of June 2015 when the race finishes.
Who will enjoy this role?
Your energy, positive thinking and social skills will make you the right person for this position. With your focused attitude and customer approach you will be successful as a host/hostess. You are an outgoing and flexible team player who appreciates serving others, and you cooperate with ease, since the global team will be working tightly together for several months. You are used to working in an international environment and you are trilingual, fluent in at least English and two other languages, preferably Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Dutch or Italian. We will demand a high level of your second and third language, why a multicultural background is of advantage. Having spent at least a couple of years abroad speaking the language on a daily basis is necessary.
An interest in technology is beneficial, and an experience or knowledge in sailing or previous experience from Volvo, could facilitate your role. All hosts/hostesses must have a driver's license.
