Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. They work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines and providing expert technical support to all AZ 's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients.

PEMA People and AstraZeneca is currently looking for a talented Statistician to play a key role in AZs Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MS&T) group. You will be responsible for providing expert statistical support for commercial products manufactured internally at AZ sites and externally by contract manufacturing organizations. You will be part of a multi-skilled group comprising expertise from a number of scientific disciplines including; Pharmaceutics, Process Engineering, Analytical Sciences, Statistics, and Chemometrics. This is a temporary role of 24 months duration and can be full time or part time placed in Södertälje.

Description:

The Principal Statistician role is responsible for statistical support in solving and preventing quality problems for our on-market products. The role is also strategic and supports designing of best practice statistical approaches to be used throughout Pharmaceutical Technology and Development and Operations. The jobholder is expected to provide in-depth knowledge and leadership in statistics and its application, and to identify opportunities to improve manufacturing process performance, process robustness and capability, quality monitoring, and stability of the commercial products.

Major Responsibilities:

• Serve as consultant/expert by providing statistical expertise and problem solving into prioritized product and process related activities such as process studies, quality-investigations, change control, and regulatory submissions.
• Decide upon and use the most appropriate data analysis methods.
• Communicate conclusions from data analysis and make recommendations for further work where necessary.
• Design experiments for quality investigations and improvements.
• Propose and implement innovative business focused statistical approaches, challenge the status quo, and promote approaches to improve robustness and quality of data driven decisions in the business.
• Proactively determine where statistical practices can create efficiencies and effectiveness at the manufacturing sites.
• Partner with AZ statisticians globally to drive consistency, efficiency and transparency in statistical approaches.
• Educate and share knowledge on statistical analysis.
• Maintain an up-to-date status with state-of-the-art statistical methods consistent with the Pharmaceutical Industry and the Health Authorities.

Essential Requirements:

Education

• Master of Science Degree in Statistics



Experience

• 2-5 years of experience as an applied statistician
• 1-2 years of statistical experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality, and/or R&D



Technical Skills:

• User of statistical packages (SAS, R and Minitab)
• A working knowledge in applying a wide range of statistical analyses to a quality organization:

* Statistical Quality Control
* Linear and non-linear modelling
* Experimental Design
* Sampling Plans

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice requirements and their applicability to pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and their applicability to pharmaceutical manufacturing

Desired Requirements:

• PhD in Statistics
• More than 5 years of experience as an applied statistician
• More than 5 years of statistical experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or R&D
• Teaching experience
• Involvement with Industry Statistical Working Groups and societies



Internal and External Contacts/Customers:

• Senior and operational staff worldwide in Operations.
• Senior and operational staff in Pharmaceutical Technology and Development and Regulatory Affairs.
• Staff from peer pharmaceutical companies, trade associations and professional groups.



Reporting Relationships:

• Reports to Regional Director Manufacturing Science and Technology (EMEA).
• Has no direct or indirect reports.
