The Department's research activities span across the sub-disciplines of chemistry and the biomedical sciences. The faculty has offered PhD training in Chemistry since 1999. The ongoing research in organic chemistry includes aspects of bioorganic chemistry, physical organic chemistry, and synthetic organic chemistry, and their applications in biotechnology, chemical catalysis, chemical ecology, ecological chemistry, food chemistry, materials chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. The ongoing organic chemistry research involves national and international collaborators, from both academia and industry.

Job description
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Science is seeking an outstanding senior lecturer in the field of organic chemistry.

The position entails the teaching, supervision, and examination of bachelor, and advanced-level students in organic chemistry and cognate disciplines, and the supervision of PhD students. The undergraduate teaching is primarily in the biomedical analyst, nutrition and food science, and pharmacy BSc-level programs, and within the MSc in chemistry program. Participation in teaching-related administrative activities is expected, a task that requires a good capacity to work well with others.

The appointee is expected to establish a competitive independent research program in organic chemistry that complements and strengthens the ongoing research of the department, and that is aligned with the strategic goals of the Faculty and University. The hallmarks of a competitive research program include obtaining external funding for research and infrastructure, publication in international peer-reviewed journals, and producing research with significant impact on the scientific community and for relevant stakeholders. Contributing to the collegial seminar culture is a further responsibility. In this context, three have strong chemistry connections: Advanced Materials, Green Sustainable Development, and Water. The Centre and Environments were established by the University Board to facilitate the achievement of the University's strategic goals.

Pedagogical skills should be demonstrated by the appointee through documented delivery of well-received teaching and examination at first- and second-cycle levels. This includes participating in course development and supervision of project students, which require a capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in both teaching and research contexts.

The appointee shall have the capability to lead a successful independent research program, as evidenced by:

• A capacity to compete for external funding for research and infrastructure, as main applicant, in national and/or international competition, in particular over the past five years,
• A track record of publication of high impact original research findings in international peer-reviewed journals,
• A capacity to successfully contribute to the supervision of PhD students,
• Successful independent research project management,
• Service to the scientific and general (outreach) communities.

The successful candidate shall have a capacity to teach in the Swedish language or shall have attained the necessary skills to do so by the start of the third year of employment. Support for language training shall be provided. Moreover, a high degree of proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
