About Fingerprint Cards AB
Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) is a Swedish biometric company with headquarters in Gothenburg that markets develops and produces biometric components and technologies that through the analysis and matching of an individual's unique fingerprint verify the person's identity. The technology consists of biometric sensors, processors, algorithms and modules. FPC engages around 400 dedicated people at offices in Gothenburg, Malmö, Linköping, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and Silicon Valley. FPC shares are noted on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm.

At FPC you will be working with the latest technology in a dynamic international environment, in a company under rapid development. You will be empowered with responsibilities and decision paths are short and fast. Our people are engaged and each individual is important since our joint efforts contribute to our success. www.fingerprints.com

We are seeking an Ultrasound research engineer to strengthen our R&D team in developing future fingerprint systems for mobile phones and other portable devices.

FPC is a leader in the development of capacitive fingerprint sensors and designs the whole system, from advanced custom silicon devices and microelectronic packaging, to algorithms and software for fingerprint recognition and applications on the target devices.

The role

As an Ultrasound Research Engineer you will contribute to our research and development efforts on novel ultrasonic fingerprint sensing. You will be a key person in investigating different ultrasonic sensing implementations and assess their performance both at the theoretical level as well as the practical level. You will take part in design, modeling, characterization, fabrication, and validation of core technology used in next-generation ultrasound-based fingerprint sensors. You are also expected to spend time to investigate the current state-of-the-art through patent analysis and to participate in further development of FPC IP portfolio in order to secure the long term competiveness of the company.

The responsibilities at this role may include but not limited to:

• Understand and evaluate different ultrasonic transducer arrays in order to capture device physics and sensor figure of merit.
• Understand and evaluate alternative ultrasonic imaging schemes relevant for fingerprint sensing application.
• Contribute to design and fabrication of new generation of ultrasonic transducer array for fingerprint sensing.
• Read and analyze patents and other relevant publications in the field.
• Active role in setting up and development of ultrasonic measurement lab.
• Develop and perform Finite Element Simulations to predict physical behavior of piezoelectric as well as MEMS-based ultrasound transducer arrays.

This role is interdisciplinary and you will work in a cross-functional team during development of new sensors. The work location is Gothenburg but can be negotiated under certain circumstances.

International travel to FPC suppliers, partners, and customers may occur.

Your background

This role requires a Master of Science in Engineering, such as in electronics, physics, acoustics, or the equivalent. A doctoral degree or a research background in ultrasound or a related field is a big plus. Previous industrial experience is also an advantage. With the right profile, less experienced candidates are considered.

You are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of acoustic materials and ultrasonic transducers. You have worked and preferably were involved in the development of transducer arrays. Your experience may come from working with piezo ceramics/composites or MEMS based transducers such as PMUTs and CMUTs.

Success in this role requires:

• Strong theoretical background in ultrasound
• Previous experience in designing or evaluating ultrasonic transducer arrays (Piezo, PMUT, or CMUT) and ultrasonic systems.
• In-depth knowledge and/or previous experience in ultrasound imaging and ultrasound image Construction.
• Previous experience in measurement and characterization of ultrasonic transudes.
• Familiar with design, modeling, and simulation of MEMS based or Piezo based ultrasonic transducers.
• Analytical mindset and ability to quickly learn new areas and understand new Technologies.
• Interest and an aptitude for working with everything from technical details to broader system topics.

You need to be fluent in spoken and written English and not opposed to traveling abroad.

You also have essential qualities such as being ambitious, motivated and flexible. You need to be comfortable working in a growing company, where you will be expected to assume considerable personal responsibility for your own activities and the company's success. This also requires you to be a team player who contributes to an open and positive atmosphere in the workplace.
