Trademark Paralegal

Husqvarna Group's IP function works closely with other global functions including Product Management & Development, Brand Management & Marketing, and Legal Affairs to: (i) procure high-quality and strategic IP rights for the Group; (ii) advise the Group's business units about the IP rights of others; and (iii) transform the Group's IP rights into greater profits. The IP function is managed by the Head of IP who manages an IP Department within the Technology Office under the Chief Technology Officer. The IP function also includes Husqvarna Group Legal Affairs, which provides advice and support to the IP Department on IP enforcement matters.

Position/Job Description:

Husqvarna Group is seeking an experienced Trademark Paralegal to join the IP Department and to be located in Huskvarna, Sweden. The Trademark Paralegal position is generally responsible for managing and executing the global trademark procurement and clearance processes in accordance with global brand protection strategies for the Husqvarna Group and its four Brand Divisions.

In particular, the Trademark Paralegal is a trademark specialist that works with IP Counsel in the IP Department on all aspects of a trademark practice including: trademark prosecution and maintenance; trademark clearance; proper usage of trademarks in products and promotional materials; issues regarding use of third party trademarks; and trademark enforcement. The position involves filing and prosecuting trademark applications, conducting and analysing trademark clearance searches, improving trademark-related processes, documenting trademark activity, tracking trademark portfolio metrics, and managing outside counsel globally.

The Trademark Paralegal position provides ample opportunity to work with a global team of expert brand managers and attorneys to manage a sophisticated trademark strategy. The role provides excellent international experience and opportunities to play an important role in Husqvarna Group's success.

Essential Duties:
• Supporting the Head of IP and trademark counsel with creation of global brand protection strategies, including trademark filing and clearance strategies, for Husqvarna Group's numerous global and regional brands.
• Filing and prosecuting domestic and foreign trademark applications.
• Managing Husqvarna Group's global trademark portfolio.
• Performing and analyzing trademark clearance searches using available online software and databases.
• Working with Legal Affairs to assess third party uses of Husqvarna Group's marks, identify infringers, and enforce the trademark and trade dress-related rights.
• Working with the in-house patent attorneys on design protection strategies and processes, and ensuring patent and trademark strategies are consistent and support each other where appropriate.
• Helping to manage Husqvarna Group's trademark budget.
• Reporting on trademark-related activity to the Head of IP and Brand Management & Marketing leaders.
• Docketing trademark deadlines and performing trademark file management.
• Reviewing marketing material such as advertising campaigns (print and visual) and product catalogues for trademark issues..
• Training business units and individuals within the Group on trademark-related processes and best practices.
• Managing outside counsel's completion of some of the above tasks as appropriate and within a budget.
• Providing other legal and IP support as needed.

Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Required
• 5+ years of experience handling trademark matters in a law firm or corporation with a sophisticated and active trademark practice.
• A high level of English language proficiency.

Skills and Capabilities (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

Required
• Trademark clearance and prosecution experience.
• Thorough knowledge of trademark laws, practices, and procedures in Europe, but also a general knowledge of global norms and differences.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, client relationship skills, and ability to interact with brand and marketing managers, lawyers, and executives at all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
• Must be motivated, proactive, and have a strong drive and will to perform, while also being flexible to handle both large and small projects with enthusiasm.
• Must be professional, customer-focused, an open communicator, and a self-starter.
• Must be respectful of other cultures and interested in regularly working with people around the world.

Desired
• Working knowledge of other languages is a plus but not in any way a requirement (e.g., Swedish, German, Japanese).
• International experience.
