Pharmaceutical Sciences is a department within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects span traditional small molecules to nucleotide based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas.



We're looking for a talented and motivated analytical scientist to lead our newly formed Non-Inhaled Characterisation Team in Gothenburg. You will help us drive the delivery of molecules for the Innovative Medicines & Early Clinical Development (IMED) portfolio that are primarily delivered orally. You and your team will input into compound and product design and development and scale-up of formulations including analytical methods from discovery up to and including Phase II. Your team will be dual skilled with both analytical and solid state scientists and will also have a special focus on supporting externalized toxicology studies and drive and champion best practice across the Pharmaceutical Sciences organization.



As Team Lead you will have a broad appreciation of the discovery to launch drug development process. You report to the Head of Early Product Development and collaborate closely with other EPD teams located in Gothenburg, Macclesfield, Cambridge, UK and Boston, US.



Most importantly, you will bring personal drive, scientific curiosity and a thirst to learn and develop yourself and your co-workers.



Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Lead Generation/ Lead Optimisation (LI/LO) Discovery support and input to compound design and candidate selection
* Analytical methods, stability, solid form and specification strategies, including contributions to Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) regulatory submissions
* Collaborating with the Drug Delivery teams in the development of drug products for GLP toxicology and early clinical studies
* Develop a highly engaged team focused on innovation, continuous improvement and delivery, recognised for providing scientific leadership
* Collaborate with other functions to deliver new drug products and technologies, and enable smart loading of product development activities



Essential Requirements

* Undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific discipline
* Ability to effectively communicate, network and build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across disciplines and cultures, internally and externally.
* Ability to manage complex portfolio of projects
* Ability to drive and lead science within the team and the projects

Desirable Requirements

* Masters/ PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
* Experience of managing change
* Experience of working in Pharmaceutical Industry at early stages of development
