Ascom is a company in the telecom business that specializes in customized communications solutions where text, voice and personal alarm are integrated in one system.
Ascom has a lot of products in the product portfolio. The products are sold through subsidiaries, OEMs, sales partners and other sales channels all over the world.
Manufacturing companies, particularly electronics manufactures, such as ourselves, are challenged to comply with European Union and other global directives and regulations regarding hazardous materials, including the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE).
The tasks will be to:
• Investigate Ascom's fulfillment of current environmental demands. Are we doing enough, have we overlooked something? Comparisons with other companies, how do others handle the same demands?
• Investigate what Ascom needs to do in order to comply with coming environmental demands such as ROHS2. Identify coming environmental demands.
The work will consist of investigations of the current environmental work at Ascom on a product level. Interviews should be held with representatives of other companies and with our partners such as test houses and technical work groups in order to get all updated information needed. A thorough investigation of coming demands and the way they will affect Ascom products is necessary. This will entail reading directives from the European union, making article searches and seeking information from authorities such as Kemikalieinspektionen.
Outcome:
Report stating weather or not Ascom is in compliance with current demands and solutions on how to solve any flaws in the current work process. Concrete suggestions on what Ascom needs to do in order to comply with coming environmental demands.
Extent:
20 weeks for 1 or 2 persons
Competence preferences:
Environmental studies on a university level.
