In the Volvo Service Market supply chain, there are many decisions to be made every day in order to ensure efficient operations. These decisions have traditionally been rule based or experience-based decision or more recently black-box AI decisions. Both approaches come with their unique challenges, such as potential trust issues in the case of black-box solutions and the less efficient and effective nature of human decisions. The current state hampers the widespread adaptation of AI solutions.
Thesis questions and expected outcome
We want the thesis project to establish a definition of explainability within the context of supply chain analytics, formulate requirements for achieving this explainability and construct a supportive framework that fosters the development of explainable AI models with comprehensible decision-making processes.
Student profile and application
Students in Computer Science, Data Science, Supply Chain Management (with knowledge of AI), or other relevant fields
