Job description: The Retrofit Design Engineer performs various designing, detailing and drafting functions in order to meet the drawing efforts for various ETO retrofit projects. The Retrofit Designer is required to utilize information provided by the engineers to prepare all necessary fabrication, detail, assembly and arrangement drawings required to have the fabrications, parts and/or equipment manufactured, assembled, erected and maintained.
• Prepares Facility Planning, General Arrangement, Control Dimension Drawings.
• Prepares necessary design, detail, assembly and arrangement drawings required to have fabrications, parts and/or equipment manufactured, assembled, erected and maintained in accordance with department drafting standards.
• Performs design/detailing activities including all welding requirements, tolerances, material definition, machining, heat treating, stress relieving, as well as size definition.
• Makes detailed layouts to determine detailed dimensions and to check clearances.
• Coordinates with detailing in other engineering disciplines. This includes reviewing drawings produced by other disciplines to assure that interface is correct and that interferences are avoided.
• Reviews the dimensional data on vendor information and makes necessary changes to the drawings.
• Produces bill of erection parts.
• Produces as-built drawings.
• Keeps up to date with new, timesaving improvements in CADD software.
• Develops and fosters new ideas, to increase our competitive advantage or make our products more attractive to the customer.
• Works with other design/CADD personnel to promote standardization of drawing files.
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as requested.
Requirements: . Technical degree in drafting or equivalent related experience.
• Min 3 years experience in engineering CADD/detailing environment.
• Experience designing heavy equipment for the mining industry. .
• Super user in Autodesk Inventor & Ansys is required.
• Experience with solid mechanics and Catia.
• Experience with SAP, SAP PDM, or other Document Management
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Excellent organizational skills combined with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience or working knowledge with structural and mechanical design.
• Must have the ability to complete the assigned tasks in the time allotted with a minimum of supervision.
• Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office Products, AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCad.
• Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills are required.
• Must be able to effectively discuss, explain and coordinate designs with drafters and other disciplines cross-functionally.
• Must be able to function effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted with minimal supervision.
• Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under stress and meet tight deadlines.
• Must be capable of effectively and accurately working on several projects at one time.
• Occasional Domestic travel may be required.
