About the position and scope
A Rolling Test Rig has the same need as an "ordinary" test rig. Uptime and functionality need to be secured so it fulfils the test needs, when needed. The difference from an ordinary test rig is that this one is on wheels and test campaigns could be performed on other sites.
The Rig Responsible for Rolling Test Rigs is responsible for planning of all activities concerning the vehicle(s). This includes planning test campaigns, handle logistics, plan and oversee rebuilds and, if required, participate in test execution together with ongoing projects.
ReVeRe is a rolling laboratory of how future multi-trailer vehicles can be designed and controlled with regards to both transport efficiency, e-mobility, and automation.
The Rig Responsible for Rolling Test Rigs shall be the operational leader for planning and conducting different vehicle combination experiments with tractor semitrailer and A-double related to the research conducted with Chalmers University and any other universities directly connected to ReVeRe lab by research projects.
Researchers that are from both Volvo and universities, and which have direct ongoing projects with ReVeRe, such as the Volvo industrial PhD projects. In addition, plan in additional testing for energy efficiency studies on the e-trailer and e-dolly units for Volvo future benefits about distributed electric propulsion.
Travel is required.

Main responsibilities in ReVeRe-laboratory:
To plan and conduct testing and update the vehicle units; 6x4 Tractor(T), e-dolly (-eD), e-semi-trailer(-eST), semi-trailer(ST) (T-eST, A-double(T-eST-eD-ST)).
Use proving grounds like Hällered, Asta Zero, Colmis Arjeplog for testing.
Plan and conduct winter tests with jack-knife protection between vehicle units in tight co-operation with Volvo industrial PhD students.
Conduct e-dolly tests in A-double, and statistically confirm energy savings (target 10%, 15%, 20%) of 40ton, 60ton, 80ton combinations at Hällered.
Conduct tests with master students especially in MSc courses with focus on motion estimation, motion control, and automated driving.

Desired qualifications and experience
We believe that you have an B.Sc., or similar relevant proven technical experience (mechanic of commercial heavy vehicles, service engineer, test engineer).
10 years of experience Volvo truck products and especially chassis, braking, steering, suspension, propulsion and other motion support devices and mechanical parts.
C/CE license with experience of conducting experiment expeditions such as winter testing with truck combinations and buses.
Conducted testing on proving grounds with commercial heavy vehicles.
Conducted winter testing focusing on vehicle motion control with early prototype B-sample sub systems such as brakes, steering, or propulsion.
Some communication protocol e.g. CAN and Ethernet knowledge for logging purpose.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
