Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

The SPECIES beamline at the 1.

5 GeV ring of the MAX IV Laboratory is a soft x-ray beamline dedicated to ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) and resonant in-elastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) research. The beamline is currently in the construction phase with first light expected early 2018. The beamline will enter the commissioning and early user operation stage during the year 2018.

We are now looking for a candidate for a temporary 2 year researcher / postdoc position to participate in the design and construction project for a new reaction cell at the APXPS end station. The new cell will be designed specifically for atomic layer deposition (ALD) research in collaboration with the University of Helsinki in Finland.

The tasks will include, but not be limited to, the following:

- Participating in the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the SPECIES beamline
- Participating in the designing, procuring, assembling and testing of a reaction cell setup for the APXPS system in collaboration with researchers from Lund University, MAX IV Laboratory and University of Helsinki
- Participating in the user support at the SPECIES beamline

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

- PhD degree in materials science / physics / chemistry or another field relevant to the research project and activities at the SPECIES beamline
- Good command of the English language, both spoken and written
- Experience in core level XPS (preferrably APXPS) and/or ALD
- Experience in ultra high vacuum technology
- Experience in designing, procuring and assembling of scientific equipment to be used for electron spectroscopy experiments at synchrotron radiation facilities
- Experience in multiphysics simulations (preferably COMSOL) is considered an advantage
- Experience in gas flow and charged particle optics multiphysics simulations is considered an advantage
- Experience in working at synchrotron radiation facilities either as a user or a member of staff is considered an advantage
- Experience in operation and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure and equipment for XPS and instructing others in their use is considered an advantage
- Experience in CAD is considered an advantage
