The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. For more information see: Lnu.se

The position will involve assisting in several projects within the group including extraction of metals from minerals, analysis of Baltic Sea sediments, and investigation of microbial communities in the deep biosphere. The work will involve reactor studies, extraction of nucleic acids, preparation of samples for e.g. amplicon sequencing, bioinformatic analyses, and other general duties in both the laboratory and field.

Qualification requirements for the position are a minimum of an MSc degree in biology, microbiology, ecology, biotechnology or similar subject. In addition, the candidate should have experience of DNA and RNA extractions, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and fieldwork. The applicant should also be proficient in English and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include having a category B drivers license.

Terms of employment: The position will be 50 % for four months with the possibility of an extension. The starting date will be 14 January 2019. The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
