The role of a technical consultant and DevOps engineer at Mediasmiths is to ensure the delivery, availability and performance of the solutions we implement for our clients. A technical consultant also continuously works to improve our working practices for development, quality assurance, deployment and support.
Within a few weeks of joining Mediasmiths a new consultant is likely to find themselves contributing to workshops, creating project documentation and running testing processes within a major media company, based on company methods and project processes.
In their first year working for the company they can expect to be working within project teams to define, test, defect manage, document and support the implementation of a number of significant business critical software projects, both large and small. A good consultant will therefore need to not only understand project processes, but also the underlying technologies that are being implemented.
The projects a technical consultant at Mediasmiths will be involved in range from small, custom integrations delivered over a few weeks to enterprise-wide transformation projects running over several years.
TECHNICAL AND PROJECT SKILLS
The candidate must be able to demonstrate and describe a successful track record of delivering projects using at least some of the following key skills and approaches:
• Experience of working with agile methods
• Experience of working in systems integration and have an ability to work within multiple technology frameworks simultaneously
• Automating deployments, quality processes and infrastructure using continuous integration and configuration management software
• Working with source code revision control software implementing best practices in release management
• Providing application support including problem detection, diagnosis, tracking and resolution
• Diagnosing complex defects and issues with deployed solutions and suggest fixes and workarounds
• Working with defect management and resolution using dedicated systems and structured approaches
• Developing and measuring quality, availability and performance metrics
• Advising on, setting up and using monitoring tools and assisting with capacity planning
• Monitoring and maintaining the availability, performance, and security of deployments and infrastructure with a focus on automation
• Writing and maintaining functional and technical documentation
• Writing, maintaining and executing manual and automated tests
• Performing basic systems administration
Experience in a media technology or creative environment is desirable, but not critical.

• Be able to structure and create project deliverables as well as managing their on-time delivery.
• Ability to break down problems and analyse complex information and situations
• Good client facing skills ? ability to build confidence and communicate appropriately in verbal and written form as well as a good ability to deal with difficult people and situations
• Ability to work as part of a mixed team
• Ability to deliver under pressure accurately
