The arena
The department of Medicinal Chemistry within cardiovascular and gastrointestinal research in Mölndal focuses primarily on the finding and optimization of lead compound series into candidate drugs but also contributes to the earlier and later phases of the drug discovery process. Our core competences are the design of high quality compounds, cutting edge synthetic organic chemistry and analysis and purification using methodologies at the scientific frontiers. Job purpose:
The Team Leader will be responsible for delivering batches of small molecules in target validation through lead optimization phase for both CVGI and RI. This may be specific molecules for target validation purposes, or intermediates in LG and LO projects. Leads and line manages a team of chemists. Very close collaboration with the other RSL Team Leader is vital as team members may be working on later phase (C1) deliveries. The role holder will be expected to manage risk using evaluative judgments in complicated or novel situations.
The role
This is a key role in the local iMed organization, where the role holder has a direct impact on iMed output through effective and productive leadership of their team. They will be expected to have a major influence on project progress through the work of their teams. The Team Leader may act as a representative for the function within AstraZeneca.
The Team Leader will be responsible for managing all aspects of the output of the team. This includes responsibility for setting and maintaining the highest scientific standards, developing scientific competence, providing flexible project support, and motivating and developing team members to maximize their potential.
The Team leader will also:
• Lead a team of approximately 4 to 9 direct reports; may lead by example making personal contributions to the experimental work of the team
• Responsible for setting, clearly communicating, and delivering chemistry in multiple projects.
• Leads the design of syntheses routes that address the key project synthesis issues
• Ensure stretch objectives, individual development plans, calibrated performance evaluations, salary and bonus setting for all team members..........
