The Bioscience COPD & IPF department is a biology unit within Early Respiratory & Immunology (Early R&I), where novel ideas for drugs are to be discovered and developed in a strong cross-functional environment to meet the unmet medical need for patients with COPD, IPF and bronchiectasis. The department consist of 7 teams, and the focus is primarily to progress projects within our portfolio and to increase our knowledge of COPD and IPF to support target identification for new projects. This team leader role is located at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.


What you'll do?
As a Team Leader/Director, Bioscience, you will lead a team of skilled scientists with diverse backgrounds and experience. This involves planning the long-term development of the Bioscience department, coaching and mentoring your team and building a work environment where scientific challenge and innovation are central. You will join a department where the team leaders work in close collaboration and will support and challenge each other. You will be accountable for recruitment of new colleagues as well as training and development of your existing team members.



Examples of accountabilities:
• Coach, mentor, motivate and inspire your team towards supporting projects with bioscience expertise
• Build and maintain a work environment in which scientific challenge and innovation is central
• Support drug projects in the Lead biologist role
• Present specific target ideas to relevant governance groups
• Work collaboratively with other teams within and outside of the Early R&I
• Manage performance, setting challenging, achievable and measurable objectives. Manage salary and bonus for the team
• Ensure that the work produced by your team is performed with high quality in accordance with compliance processes, meeting company as well as biology standards



Essential Skills/Experience:
• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
• Knowledge of respiratory biology and cell biology
• Strong leadership experience with emphasis of people management and development
• Significant understanding of the drug discovery process and overall drug development and commercialisation process

To succeed in this role you need excellent management and interpersonal skills as well as a genuine interest in both people and science



Desirable Skills/Experience:
• Experience in the identification and progression of drug targets from pre-clinical through to the clinical setting
• An understanding of Respiratory Diseases
• Strong publication record
