Information about the division and the project
At the Quantum Technology division of the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2), we pursue state-of-the art research in quantum information science, microwave quantum optics, and mechanical quantum devices. We are also part of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year initiative to advance Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology, and to build a Swedish quantum computer.

In our research group, the 202Q-lab, we use superconducting circuits to explore fundamental and applied questions in the areas of quantum information processing, microwave quantum optics and communication, and quantum thermodynamics. Our research is funded by WACQT, the Swedish Research Council, the European Research Council (ERC), and the European Innovation Council (EIC).

Project description
Superconducting quantum circuits is a pioneering field of research to develop cutting-edge quantum technology, especially quantum computation, that aims to revolutionize the computing paradigm. We are dedicated to the comprehensive research and development of superconducting quantum circuits, encompassing design, fabrication, control, and experiments.

Summer projects, spanning a 2.5 month period, are intended to support technical developments in our laboratory which facilitate our research. As of now, the following projects are available:

• Develop Vector Network Analyzer capability in Presto: Endow an FPGA based system called Presto, used for quantum control and measurements, with the capability of measuring scattering parameters similar to a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). This project will make external VNAs redundant. It involves hands-on lab work and software development for quantum device characterization.
• Develop a Microwave Package and its mount for Quantum Processors: Design and model an advanced microwave package to house quantum processors, emphasizing electromagnetic shielding and cooling system integration. This project is pivotal for improving qubit performance and processor reliability.
• Develop Data Visualization Software for Quantum Experiments: Develop software for efficient data analysis in quantum computation experiments. It will integrate with quantum platforms like Vivace and Presto, offering the intern a unique blend of programming and quantum technology experience.

Additional projects around experimental research on quantum superconducting circuits may be available and can be discussed during the interview, also
based on the interests expressed by the candidate in the motivation letter.

Responsibilities
The intern is expected to:

• work in a team setting, and gather background information and collect feedback regularly to successfully execute the project
• work with a strong initiative to tackle the project with diligence and creativity
• prepare documentation of the project for future reproduction and development

Contract terms
Temporary employment, full-time.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:

• BSc in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in programming with high-level languages like Python or C, for development of Vector network analyzer or Data visualization software.

Desired qualifications:
For developing microwave package

• Experience with CAD softwares
