Being part of the Software or Scientific data group, you will be in close collaboration with scientists as well as network, system, software and hardware engineers and scientific software experts. MAX IV is looking for a Software Developer who will
be involved in the developments of the software groups of the technical division, covering a variety of systems and their integration into the experimental stations. As an experienced professional you will bridge the understanding of the scientific requirements and state of the art software development. You can thus work with your colleagues to understand the scientific motivations and with the team to implement solutions with their shared knowledge. You also know or can learn about the science of the experiments running in MAX IV. Having the advantage of working with our clients gives us the insight and opportunity to increase our success in delivering the best solutions which in turn enables them to deliver the best scientific results.
You will be expected to contribute to international collaborations and conferences about our research facility software.
You will also be able to learn and to increase your skills, competence, and experience.

Your main work tasks will be
• Developing software projects related to acquisition, visualisation and management of data at MAX IV.
• Supporting the MAX IV staff in using the MAX IV software framework.
• Improving the "User eXperience" for troubleshooting and finding simple user-friendly solutions to complex problems.
• Participating to the team work, planning and resource estimation as well as improving the group infrastructure.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
• A University degree in Computer Science or Physics
• A professional experience with Python 3 and C++ programming.
• An understanding of common Software Architecture: Functional, OOP, Reactive
• The ability to work with ease in a Linux operating system environment.

Experience in any below are seen as merits
• Full stack development
• Knowledge in any of the following: Javascript, React, Database, in linux environment
• Agile team environment, familiar with pair programming, review, unit tests, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
• Software development in a scientific environment with domain knowledge in a related discipline (e.g. spectroscopy, microscopy, particle accelerators...).
• Control System development.
• An understanding of Performance and Distribution of systems: TCP/IP, ZMQ, ...
• Other Software programming languages: JavaScript, C, C++, Go, Rust ...
• Strong communication skills, fluent in English

Personal Qualities
In addition to the above it is regarded as highly important to supply evidence that you are a team player and can demonstrate your communication and collaborative skills. You should also be committed to quality work and able to understand requirements for scientific related developments. Also, due to the nature of our daily work, you should be able to successfully balance between the planned work and the unexpected needs at short notice.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

The MAX IV Controls and IT team (KITS) deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of control system hardware, controls software applications, infrastructure and networking, information management and scientific software. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 50 people in total who work in 5 domains in a well organised and agile way. We hold values of lean management, knowledge spread, user autonomy, continuous improvement and flexibility as guiding principles for our work.
