Silica and Paper Chemicals is one of the three global sub business units within AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals. The business is a leader in colloidal silica with a strong global network of plants supplying customers all over the world. We supply a broad range of colloidal silica products, polymers, separation products and other specialty chemicals to industries that include paper, construction, pharmaceutical and electronics. Our head office is located in Bohus, Sweden. We operate from 25 separate locations globally and employ 1,000 people.

Chemical Analysis is a central resource within AkzoNobel PPC. The department is performing analysis of raw material, products and environmental samples for the producing units in AkzoNobel PPC. Chemical Analysis takes part in research and development projects, market support, trouble shooting and development of new analytical methods. Twenty three people are working at the department mainly within the competence areas of wet chemistry, spectroscopy and chromatography.
Responsibility

We are looking for a curious researcher and enthusiastic chemist feeling at home in all kinds of environments, ranging from production areas to lecture halls.
Your role will be to convey scientific knowledge into practical use for colleagues in various functions; as well as making science from input you receive!

The main tasks and responsibilities are:
• Contribute as an expert in the analytical area with focus on Chromatography, organic as well as inorganic chemistry and research methods in activities within PPC and the rest of AkzoNobel
• Initiate, lead and plan projects, programs and activities in our laboratories.
• Have the economic responsibility for program and project budgets.
• Write reports and present results both internally and externally on an international level.
• Supervise diploma workers, PhD students and project employees.
• Analyse and deliver information on patent publications in order to identify opportunities and follow the scientific development in the area on a global base.
• Establish and develop and maintain relevant scientific networks.

Job requirements / Candidate profile
• PhD in Chemistry and at least 10 years of relevant experience with an established network within the academic world and the industry.
• Deep knowledge in analytical chemistry.
• Innovative and engaged mind set.
• Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
• Strong communication skills.
