We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist with expertise in Cell and Molecular Biology to join the Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) in vitro team within the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (CVMD) therapeutic area at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.

CVMD is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED), AstraZeneca's small molecule biotech unit that deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. CKD is one of AstraZeneca's strategic research areas within CVMD that aims towards new treatments that will halt, slow or reverse the progression of kidney disease.

As a Senior Scientist in the CKD in vitro team you support CKD projects by giving scientific input around in vitro assay and delivers key in vitro and ex vivo data. Collaboration is critical for successful delivery of drug projects and you will work closely with scientists from a wide range of different functions within AstraZeneca as well as with external collaborators.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

*

Deliver key in vitro and ex vivo data to project teams within the agreed timelines and to the right quality
*

Independently design, conduct and analyse in vitro and ex vivo assays
*

Presentation of data to team meetings and project team meetings
*

Perform statistical analysis and initial interpretation of the data
*

Perform and document the work according to AstraZeneca standards and policies
*

Work collaboratively with scientists from other functions as required to ensure flow-scheme connectivity and translatability between in vivo and in vitro models
*

Work collaboratively within CVMD Bioscience and IMED to deliver on project key questions
*

Support publication in peer-reviewed journals
* Contribute proactively to a vibrant and innovative working environment where improvements and new ideas are adopted and freely shared

Essential Requirements

*

Degree in Cell and Molecular biology (or other relevant discipline) or equivalent experience
*

Experience within the renal field will be prioritized
*

Extensive experience with cellular biology and cell culture
*

Experience in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (e.g. PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, Western blotting)
*

Experience with ex vivo measurement (e.g. isolated tissue)
*

Track record in the establishment of biological assays
*

Statistical analysis of data
*

Strong oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English
*

Track record in supervision of undergraduates and graduate students

Desirable Requirements

*

Experience in screening and automated screening are valuable skills
*

Experience in pharmaceutical R&D
