The Senior Scientist position distinguishes itself through research collaboration and high emphasis on new product innovations and analysis requirements. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for scientific input in upstream R&D projects and provide general support within the bioprocess area.

Essential Responsibilities

To become a total solution provider, GEHC Life Sciences needs to strengthen its position in the upstream area, and especially to increase the expert competence in the cell culture/vaccine area. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for scientific input in upstream R&D projects and provide general support within the bioprocess area. The position also includes responsibility for customer interactions/collaborations and to be R&D expert in technology intake discussions.

Key activities include:

• To supervise, plan, execute and document project work in alignment with given objectives; parts of the work will be performed in a BSL2 lab.

• To act as scientific mentor for R&D personnel.

• To act as scientific/technical expert in the cell culture/vaccine product development area, and to provide technical advice as support to adjacent areas.

• To participate in, and if needed, actively manage external collaborations and research activities.

• To contribute to the company's scientific presence within cell culture/vaccine area, by authoring of scientific papers and posters/orals for scientific conferences.

• To act as project manager if needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

• PhD or equivalent competence from bioprocess/biotechnology or related area.

• Extensive experience from upstream industry processes with focus on cell culture/vaccine work and optimization of culture processes.

• Have a broad knowledge in the virus area that is based on, for example virus propagation, virus kinetics and virus yield.

• A successful candidate should have ability to drive development of cell culture/vaccine area in a global environment.

• Solid understanding of bioprocess upstream industry trends.

• Proficiency to provide scientific leadership in the organization.

• Ability to work and act cross-functionally in the organization.

• Capability to play an innovative and creative role in identifying and evaluating new product opportunities.

• Strong external focus, ability to build and maintain networks both internally and externally and spread knowledge in the entire organization.

• Strong leadership skills.

• Structured and organized team player.

• Strong communication skills.

• Fluent in English and Swedish, both verbally and in writing.

• EU work permit.

Desired Characteristics

• Extensive experience (+5 years) from development work in biopharmaceutical industry with focus on cell culture and/or process optimization for recombinant proteins.

• Experience from development of vaccine manufacturing processes.

• Experience from project or team management.
